Ask Me Monday #10 - Sex After Birth

Every Monday I randomly choose one question that has been sent

Do YOU have a question to do with sex, intimacy or wondering
if something you heard is true? All people have questions - why wonder when you can
simply ask a professional Sex & Intimacy Coach?!

Since I have been back from Sexy U's yearly Winter break, I haven't gotten any
Ask Me Monday submissions until now. This week I did get quite a few so I'm going to answer two this week.
Do remember though, if you would like to book a One on One
private appointment to talk about your questions or concerns via Skype, feel free to
book an appointment HERE

This week's 1st question:

I finally got my sex drive back...sort of! Haha enough to want

to try again anyways it hurt to much so we stopped, ive never had to use lube

but im thinking I might need to in order to get things back on track...any

recommendations??? My ob said my stitches healed fine I may just need to

wait longer! I figured you'd have some

tips/advice?

Sure! Getting back in to sex after giving birth can be a tricky, difficult and emotional time.
There are quite a few factors that can affect sex drive at this time and yes, most definitely
I would suggest using a good lubricant for sure.

First I want to talk a little bit about what happens with your sex drive after having a baby
just so you know that you're not alone if your drive isn't as high as it was before.
It is totally normal to have little to no sex drive after birth, not only because of what's
happened to your vagina and the healing process but when you give birth and especially while breastfeeding, your body produces an abundance of a hormone called Prolactin.
Prolactin stimulates the production of breast milk but it also
decreases the sex drive immensely. Some people think that because you are
at the most fertile time in your life from the moment of birth and until between one and two years afterwards (it's very easy to get pregnant again at this time), Prolactin acts as a natural birth control by lowering and in most cases diminishing the sex drive to prevent you from becoming pregnant too soon again.

If you are a breastfeeding mother, you will produce a lot more Prolactin than new mothers that do not breast feed. Because of this and the effects that Prolactin has on the sex drive, you may have to deal with a lower drive until breast feeding is complete, depending on when that is for you.

Besides the Prolactin factor, being a new mother, your body has changed a lot.
Some women are comfortable with that (because it's totally natural!), while others are more self conscious with these changes which can affect sex drive after birth in itself and can be nerve wracking trying those first times and afterwards. What is very important is to be sure that you are doing your kegel exercises to prevent PC muscle atrophy which is quite common with pregnancy and birth.
I wrote a great detailed post about all of the issues it can cause, how to avoid it, improve it and how to do your kegels properly - every woman should be doing these - during pregnancy, afterwards and throughout life - even without ever giving vaginal birth.
If you haven't read it yet (even if you already know about kegels!), I highly recommend it, it's right Here.

With all of the hormonal changes that a woman's body goes through during pregnancy and child birth, it is totally natural and normal to lose some (and occasionally all) of that natural lubrication. For some women, this change is only for a short time and for others it can be a lifetime change.  There is nothing wrong with needing to use lubricant at this time (or ever really - every woman is different in the amounts she secretes - children or no children), it doesn't necessarily mean that you aren't turned on (unless you aren't turned on!) or that anything is wrong at all.
Also, since you have a bit of scar tissue down there, it makes sense to use a lubricant to help with the slickness, it will be a lot more comfortable with a good lube.

For you, I would suggest a good water based lubricant with a touch of Aloe Vera, which of course is good for healing.

I use lubricant every time, I'm not ashamed to say it - I find I don't secrete as much as I used to being in a long term relationship which is totally normal. I also find that the slipperiness adds a nice touch! I really enjoy using lube.

The lubricant above is what I would recommend for you - It's the one I use and really the only one I use (besides my favorite flavored lube for oral ;)
Be sure to get the water based blue topped bottle - they do have a few other versions such as silicone based, water based warming, hybrid, etc but they are all different colors. The one you want is the blue topped one just like the photo shows.

It has aloe vera in it, which is nice for healing (even without stitches or after birth, something that's a little unpleasant to hear is that during and after regular intercourse, the walls of the vagina are covered in tiny microscopic tears. Aloe in a lube is great for anyone).
I find that for a water based lube, it does a great job at keeping it's slickness without becoming tacky like most of them do.
It also is a pump bottle, so it gives you the perfect amount and unlike squeeze tube bottles or flip tops, you can have it right on the bed (or wherever you do it) beside you and if you accidentally roll on it, it's not going to make a mess or squirt everywhere - it has a nice locking pump. If you take the label off it simply looks like a hand lotion bottle, so there are no concerns with leaving it out and people knowing what it is - unless they use it themselves.

Some people do have a sensitivity or allergy to aloe however (which is pretty rare - most of us have used it on our cuts right from the plant), and if that applies to you I'm going to suggest something else - just in case.

The lubricant in the photo above is definitely a close second.
This is a great water based lube and is what I recommend to people that are very sensitive and have a lot of allergies or irritations and is also what I recommend to people that prefer to use vegan, all natural products. (Although the Pink Water above is also free of glycerins & parabens)
This lube is 100% natural and only has 3 ingredients - water and two plants - that is it!
I find that despite the lack of ingredients it is a very slick and effective lubricant.
Of the many natural lubes I've tried before, you usually get the downfall of extreme tackiness, but not with this one here.

Please don't use any natural oils in place of lubricants - many people figure that since they are natural and super slick that they make a great lubricant alternative (which does feel great at the time) but that is not the case at all. Anything that is an oil (natural or not) does not easily leave the walls of the vagina. Bacteria will stick to the oil and cause a host of problems - with those natural microscopic tears that occur during sex this is a very bad combination that can lead to infection very easily. So do keep that in mind! It's best to stick with a water based lubricant such as the two above.

Most importantly start very, very slowly and if it's irritating or causing too much pain there's no need to completely stop playing - there are plenty of other things that you can do to finish off the moment ;)  I do suggest a lot of good foreplay and warm up before penetration to help it along. Another suggestion would be to start off by inserting something a bit smaller first, playing for a little bit and then moving to him - men are very visual and most LOVE to watch a woman play with herself - Or he can do it for you. Starting a bit smaller and moving up to the size of him will help a bit a long with the lube.

If you would like to read more info on lubricants, you can read a previous post I had written Here.
It goes through many different lubricants for specific uses and the differences between all of the different types out there. It's a great informative article.

If you have any more questions feel free to send them to me, I hope I did a good job at answering your question, I'm happy to help!
Congrats on the new baby as well :)

As for this week's second question......

Are female supplements like Durazest for women safe when breastfeeding?

Unfortunately the government does a very lousy job at regulating and testing herbs since (in my opinion) herbs don't make them any money. Because of the lack of testing with herbs and the fact that many herbs are unsafe to use while pregnant and/or breastfeeding, they are not advised to take during these times.
Not all "unsafe" while breastfeeding herbs affect the baby, some herbs affect
the actual milk supply itself. There are many lists out there full of herbs to avoid while pregnant or breastfeeding (there are some good ones Here & Here) that are known to affect baby and/or milk supply but they are in no way complete lists, most herbs have not been fully tested.

Because of this, herbal supplements like Durazest for women are not advised to use while breastfeeding as they do contain Panax Ginseng and Guarana which is definitely on the harmful list as you can see in the above links.

The best thing that I would recommend is to discuss this with both your family doctor to see if there is anything he can give or suggest that is safe and also a lactation consultant for a second opinion as they are familiar with herbal remedies and all things to do with breastfeeding specifically.

Since most likely her prolactin hormone is high (a natural hormone that helps her to produce breast milk but also kills the sex drive) most likely you wont get good results until breastfeeding is over unfortunately - but it still doesnt hurt to ask the Dr and lactation consultant.

Good luck to you!

Ask Me Monday #7

I would like to start off with an apology - Last week's Ask Me Monday was
non exsistant. Since I run 3 businesses of my own (& on my own) plus work part time and the fact that
I am awful with time management things just caught up with me!
It happens I guess - I try pretty hard to keep it all going smoothly!
I have been working on a few custom orders for my
other business I Made Creations that will be going to Europe, which is pretty
exciting for me. I am pretty close to caught up now and should be back on the ball!
Thanks for your patience everyone :)

This week's question is:

So I've heard that if you get a small tear or cut in the anus,
it won't heal because of the moist and dark environment.
Fact or fiction?

Great question!

The lining inside of the bum is quite different than skin. It is also quite different
than the lining inside of the vagina.

Directly beyond the anus - literally right  where your asshole closes,
your skin changes in to a specialized lining called the anoderm.
The anoderm is very thin and unlike skin it has no hairs, sweat glands or oil glands
and it contains a very large amount of sensory nerves that sense light
    touch and pain.
This explains why it is oh-so-sensitive when we try
any sort of playing down there. We literally feel far more there than any other part
of our body. We do cut and lightly damage ourselves there more than a few times in our lives with hard craps or repeated diarrhea.
On occasion, rectal thermometers, enema tips, endoscopes and
quite commonly childbirth will cause tearing and some damage, along with
    fingernails and other anal play.

Anal wounds in moderation (small cuts & tears) will have no problem in
healing at all however, there are a few things that will help healing to be faster.
Like I had mentioned in the Importance of Kegel Exercising Post
with atrophied muscles (since the PC muscle group spans from the pubic bone in the front all the way past the butt to the very base of the spine) you will have decreased blood flow.
Decreased blood flow will prevent quick healing to any area down below - including
in and around the anus.  The more you do your kegels, the more you promote
blood flow and healing - just another big reason to work on those kegels!!

It is quite the myth that inside the bum you wont heal well because of the darkness
and dampness. For example - The fastest healing area of your body is inside
your mouth - another damp and dark place.

The main issue with a cut or tear in this area is due to lack of blood flow.
Practicing your kegels & avoiding tightening the sphincter will help - some
people naturally tighten their sphincter when they feel pain and that is a huge
problem - just like a cut on a knuckle of the finger and then bending it, it
opens back up. Being as relaxed as possible will help promote healing.

On the other hand of course, the ass is filled with all sorts of good and bad bacterias.
Some people insist on using an enema before anal play to ensure a clean
play session however, using an enema not only cleanses out the bad bacteria & poop
but also the good bacteria & flora needed to promote healing. People that
use enemas regularly tend to get more infections and have issues with healing,
I dont recommend using an enema for that reason.

If you do get an uncomfortable cut, tear, anal fissure, epesiotomy or hemorrhoids:
a good way to promote faster healing is using a sitz bath. A sitz bath is a small
round tub that you fill with a few inches of water 20 minutes, 2-3 times per day.
Alternating between cold & warm you can add a small amount of salt, baking soda
or vinegar. This helps to keep the area clean and to promote more blood flow for
faster healing. They are soothing as well.
Alternatively you can just fill the bath a few inches.

I hope that helps answering your question, dont worry - a bum cut will
heal just fine as long as it's not too severe.

    Ask Me Monday #4

Every Monday we randomly choose one question that has been sent
in during the week and answer it here, in Sexy U's Blog.

Do YOU have a question to do with sex, intimacy or wondering
if something you heard is true? All people have questions - why wonder?!
Send in your question via inbox on the Sexy U Facebook Page or completely
anonymously in the provided box on the main page of the Sexy U Website
and we just might answer yours!

    This week's question is:

"I dont last as long as I used to. I have a very high sex drive and am ready to
go anytime. I am wondering what you can suggest to help me not arrive so quickly.
I'm not saying that I'm a 2 minute man or anything but I's like to last longer than I do.
Also, does my jerking off affect how long I last in bed? Is there such a thing as jerking off too much and is it affecting me in a bad way?"

    Great topic :)

First off I would like to reassure you that getting yourself off is not
bad for you at all. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it at all and
it will not affect you in a bad way. The only times it will affect you in a bad way is if it
is actually affecting your life doing it so much where you can get
in to trouble with other people or if your partner doesn't understand your needs and it
affects your relationship in a bad way. These are completely different
issues though and doesn't sound like those are an issue for you - they
would be a whole other topic.

The only way that getting yourself off will change any difference in the length
of time you last in bed is if you do it soon before sex.

There are a few ways to help prolong yourself in the sack and one of the
ways is, depending on your recovery time (the time it takes after you have an orgasm
to the time you can get hard again - this time varies from person to person),
lets say for example, you can't get it up for 15 minutes after you blow a load.
If you were to jack off 15 minutes before you were to have sex with your partner
you should actually prolong your time in bed with her. I'm not sure if you have tried
this, but try it - whatever your recovery time is, go jack off before sex and
see how much of a difference that makes. It should help a bit anyways.

Jacking off really wont affect your time with your partner in any
negative way, so no need to worry about that.

Another fact to consider is that women naturally take longer than men
to orgasm. In most cases much much longer!
This is just how it is and it is totally natural. I have a lot of women tell me that
they just cant orgasm with their partner but a lot of the time the issue isn't that
they cant, they just don't spend the required time, he gets off and she
feels too pressured (whether it's him pressuring her or all in her head) and then it's over.

This is going to get a little explicit here in a moment...

Knowing the fact that that is just the way it is, there are many natural ways
to prolong yourself while helping her at the same time. Everyone is unique
in the time it takes so this will vary from person to person.
For example, lets say it takes 15 minutes for her to have an orgasm but only 5 minutes
for you. You must start with foreplay. This is an absolute must if you would
like to speed her up and slow you down.

If you don't have a vibrator - get one. Sometimes it takes a few to find one
that she really likes but it's worth it when you find it!

    Start with her.
You know best in what she likes. Use the vibrator on her to get her going
and then eat her out a little to get her nice and further along. If she doesn't like
that then use your hands. Kiss her all over, some women love their nipplles and breasts played with - Just play with her and get her going.
It will get her a lot closer than just diving in to sex because if you do, you are
going to get off and she isn't. That is when sex gets boring and issues start to happen.
    We don't want that!
If she ends up getting close - stop. Don't let her orgasm yet.
Give her half a minute (if needed) and then start penetration. If you feel like you are going to come to orgasm and don't want to yet a little trick is to change positions.
That will give you a few moments to hold off. Each time you feel like you are getting really close you can either hold off by changing positions or pulling out and focusing on her by doing anything - eat her out, finger her or use a toy on her, play with her breasts or
whatever. The best sex is playful, adventurous and uses different positions and techniques anyways - she's not going to know that you are secretly trying to prolong
yourself, and not only are you doing that but you are making it fun and different.
The possibilities of the things that you can do to prolong your orgasm by stopping
and doing something else are endless. There are so many fun things to
do together in bed! Also, by stopping your orgasm - when you do actually blow your
load it will make it that much stronger.

There are a few other things that you can do as well to prolong yourself in bed.
Have you ever tried a penis sleeve?

This is one of the many, many types of penis sleeves around. You can get
them very textured, nice and smooth, with extention bits on the end to make
you "longer" and there are also lifelike sleeves as well.
Sleeves serve two purposes. Not only are they a nice feeling for her (each woman
has her own preferences - some wont like textured, some women are short inside and longer causes pain and so on. It is important to know what she likes through
good communication or bring her with you while shopping). Try to find one
like the one in the photo above that has a band to anchor around the testicles.
They are a bit tight but very stretchy.

Sleeves also do something for the man as well. Because there is such a thick barrier
it will make it so that you feel less. You will feel a bit more by adding lubricant to the inside of the sleeve but if you do that make sure that you do choose one with the band that goes around the testicles so it doesn't slip off being slippery.

This will definitely help to prolong you by feeling less and it will help her with extra sensations as well. This is a good option to try as they aren't too expensive
(yet they CAN be) and it's always fun to try new things together as well.
The sleeves aren't just for your penis either - Use them on an insertible toy to switch up the texture. A toy that she didn't like before because it was too hard may
turn in to a favorite with a sleeve.

Another product used for prolonging is called a "desensitizer".

Desensitizers come in a few different forms, they can be creams, balms
or sprays and they have a numbing agent called "lidocaine".
Basically these take away some of the sensation so that you don't feel as much
in turn, lasting longer. Using desensitizing agents is best used with
condoms as you will be defeating the purpose if it rubs off on to her, she lasts
long already as it is! However, the sprays will dry quickly and are
recommended because of that reason if you are not using condoms.

So those are the most common ways of prolonging orgasms for men and
should help you - especially the switching things up bit when you start to get close.

Also - don't be discouraged by this, 75% of all men say that they orgasm too quickly.
There's no reason that you have to stop after you blow a load either.
Surprise her - If you get off far too soon, just pull out and work on her!
It's only a matter of time before you can go again! There's no
"One orgasm rule" here. Just because you cum doesn't mean it's a done deal.
It only means (depending on the man) that you wont have an erection for how ever
long your recovery time lasts. You can do so much in bed with her until you can go again.

Anyways, I hope I've helped and gave you a few good things to try!
